Town Constables
Town of Union Vale Constables are registered and approved with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) as Peace Officers. Constables are required to Complete a NYS Basic Peace Officer Course approved by the Division of Criminal Justice Services. Annually the Town must verify completion of a requalification course in firearms and other weapons, and the completion of Municipal Police Training Council’s Use of Force Training with the Division of Criminal Justice Services.
Town Constables serve at the pleasure of the Town Board and have the duty to enforce laws of the State of New York, laws of the County of Dutchess and the laws of the Town of Union Vale. Constables patrol town roads and ensure buildings and other properties are secure daily, enforce town code, enforce regulations regarding town parks, provide security as town court officers, provide crowd and traffic control at town events, maintain order at town meetings and provide building and other security duties as directed by the Town Board or Town Justices.
